What is Dual Channel Memory?

Dual-channel architecture DDR/DDR2/DDR3 SDRAM describes a motherboard technology that effectively doubles data throughput from RAM to the memory controller. Dual-channel-enabled memory controllers utilize two 64-bit data channels, resulting in a total bandwidth of 128-bits, to move data from RAM to the CPU.
The motherboard memory controller, which regulates data flow between CPU and the system memory (RAM), determines the types and speeds of RAM as well as the maximum size of each individual memory module and the overall memory capacity of the system. There are many memory controller designs. Prior to 2003, the most common was the single-channel configuration. Among its advantages are its low cost and flexibility. When the memory is unable to keep up with the processor, however, a bottleneck occurs, leaving the CPU with nothing to process. Under the single-channel architecture, any CPU with a bus speed greater than the memory speed would be liable to fall prey to this bottleneck effect.
The dual-channel configuration alleviates the problem by doubling the amount of available memory bandwidth. Instead of a single memory channel, a second parallel channel is added. With two channels working simultaneously, the bottleneck is reduced. Dual-channel architecture takes existing RAM technology and improves the method in which it is handled. While the actual implementation differs between Intel® and AMD motherboards, the basic theory stands.
In order to achieve this, two or more DDR/DDR2/DDR3 SDRAM memory modules must be installed into matching banks. These separate channels allow each memory module access to the memory controller, increasing throughput bandwidth. It is not required that identical modules be used, but this is often recommended for best compatibility for dual channel operation. It is possible to use a single-sided module of 512 MB and a double-sided module of 512 MB in dual-channel configuration, but how fast and stable it is depends on the memory controller.
Modules rated at different speeds can be run in dual-channel mode, although the motherboard will then run all memory modules at the speed of the slowest module. Some motherboards, however, have compatibility issues with certain brands or models of modules when attempting to use them in dual-channel mode. For this reason, it is generally advised to use identical pairs of memory modules. Several motherboard manufacturers only support configurations where a matched pair of modules are used.
Dual-channel architecture is a motherboard technology and does not apply to memory modules. In other words, any matched pair of memory modules may support single and dual-channel operation provided the motherboard supports this architecture.
A matched pair of memory modules consist of:
  • Capacity (for example; 1024 MB). Certain Intel® chipsets support different capacity chips in what they call Flex Mode, the capacity that can be matched is run in dual channel the remainder runs single channel.
  • Speed (for example; PC5300). If the speed is not the same, the lower speed of the two modules will be used. Likewise, the higher latency of the two modules will be used.
  • Number of chips and sides (for example; 2 sides with 4 chips on each side).

Playable Games List for Intel® HD Graphics 4200/4400

I've been reading that Intel Graphics can now perform better at gaming. This is good news to all of us who are casual and mainstream gamers. Now we don't need to buy expensive video cards for our entertaiment needs. As I was searching for playable games for Intel HD graphics, I saw a page from Intel stating their tested games for their graphics engine.

Create a bootable Windows 7 USB Flash drive

What you need?
* 4GB USB Flash drive or greater
* Computer (See Specs required below)
* Internet Connection



Install POWERISO, If already installed, then skip this step.

1) Start POWERISO.
2) Click on TOOLS
3) Click on CREATE BOOTABLE USB DRIVE
4) Select your windows 7 ISO image under source image file.
5) Select your USB device under destination USB drive.
6) Select USB-HDD in write method under settings.
7) Click on START.

After few minute your Windows 7 setup is ready to use in USB.

Now you are ready to install your Windows.

8) Restart you pc
9) The start bios post message by click on DEL, F8, F9, etc.. {Change acc. to PC read on screen then click suitable button}
10) Go to boot section.
11) Click on disk priority and choose USB as first.
12) Save your setting and again restart.
13) Now your window setup is start choose suitable options and install your windows.
14) After completing Windows installation change your disk priority from USB to hard disk or just remove USB disk priority automatically change.

Overview

When you download Windows from Microsoft Store, you have two options: You can download a collection of compressed files, or you can download an ISO file. An ISO file combines all the Windows installation files into a single uncompressed file.
If you choose to download an ISO file so you can create a bootable file from a DVD or USB drive, copy the Windows ISO file onto your drive and then run the Windows USB/DVD Download Tool. Then simply install Windows onto your computer directly from your USB or DVD drive.
When you download the ISO file, you must copy it onto a USB or DVD. When you're ready to install Windows, insert the USB drive or DVD with the ISO file on it and then run Setup.exe from the root folder on the drive.
This allows you to install Windows onto your machine without having to first run an existing operating system. If you change the boot order of drives in your computer's BIOS, you can run the Windows installation directly from your USB drive or DVD when you first turn on your computer. Please see the documentation for your computer for information about how to change the BIOS boot order of drives.
Making copies
  • To install the software, you can make one copy of the ISO file on a disc, USB flash drive, or other media.
  • After you’ve installed the software and accepted the license terms that accompany the software, those license terms apply to your use of the software. The license terms for Windows permit you to make one copy of the software as a back-up copy for re-installation on the licensed computer. If you do not delete your copy of the ISO file after installing the Windows software, the copy of the ISO file counts as your one back-up copy.
If you need to download the software again, you can go to your Download Purchase History in your Microsoft Store account and access the download there.

Installation

To install the Windows USB/DVD Download Tool:
1. Click to open the Windows USB/DVD Download Tool page.
2. Click Download then Run.
3. Follow the steps in the setup dialogs. You'll have the option to specify where to install the Windows USB/DVD Download Tool.
You must be an administrator on the computer on which you are installing the Windows USB/DVD Download tool. It requires the Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 or higher.

System requirements
  • Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit)
  • Pentium 233-megahertz (MHz) processor or faster (300MHz is recommended)
  • 50MB of free space on your hard drive
  • DVD-R drive or 4GB removable USB drive
For Windows XP users
The following applications must be installed prior to installing the tool:
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 must be installed. It can be downloaded here.
  • Microsoft Image Mastering API v2 must be installed. It can be downloaded here.

Using the Windows USB/DVD Download Tool

Before you run the Download Tool, make sure you have purchased the Windows ISO download from Microsoft Store and downloaded the Windows ISO file to your drive. If you have purchased Windows but have not yet downloaded the ISO file, you can download the ISO file from your Microsoft Store Account.
To make a copy of your Windows ISO file:
1. Click the Windows START button, and click WINDOWS USB/DVD DOWNLOAD TOOL in the ALL PROGRAMS list to open the Windows USB/DVD Download Tool.
2. In the SOURCE FILE box, type the name and path of your Windows ISO file, or click BROWSE and select the file from the OPEN dialog box. Click NEXT.
3. Select USB DEVICE to create a copy on a USB flash drive or select DVD disk to create a copy on a DVD disk.
4. If you are copying the file to a USB flash drive, select your USB device in the drop-down list and click BEGIN COPYING. If you are copying the file up to a DVD, click BEGIN BURNING.
When your Windows ISO file is copied to your drive, install Windows by moving to the root folder of your DVD or USB drive, and then double-click Setup.exe.

I. EXTERNAL PARTS (I/O Ports)
1. PS/2 Port for Mouse
2. PS/2 Port for Keyboard

>>  The PS/2 connector is a 6-pin Mini-DIN connector used for connecting some keyboards and mice to a PC compatible computer system. Its name comes from the IBM Personal System/2 series of personal computers, with which it was introduced in 1987.
Prior to 2010, the most commonly used connection for keyboards and mice to a PC compatible computer system. Its name comes from the IBM Personal System/2 series of personal computers, which replaced the even older 5-pin DIN connector for an AT keyboard. Some newer PCs may have a single combo PS/2 port that is half purple and half green. If present, these combo ports can accept either a PS/2 keyboard OR mouse. In any configuration, these ports carry a small electrical charge and the PC should be completely powered off before (un)plugging anything from/into them.

3. Serial Port
A Serial Port is a serial communication physical interface through which information transfers in or out one bit at a time (in contrast to a parallel port). Throughout most of the history of personal computers, data was transferred through serial ports to devices such as modems, terminals and various peripherals.
While such interfaces as Ethernet, FireWire, and USB all send data as a serial stream, the term "serial port" usually identifies hardware more or less compliant to the RS-232 standard, intended to interface with a modem or with a similar communication device.
Modern computers without serial ports may require serial-to-USB converters to allow compatibility with RS 232 serial devices. Serial ports are still used in applications such as industrial automation systems, scientific instruments, point of sale systems and some industrial and consumer products. Server computers may use a serial port as a control console for diagnostics. Network equipment (such as routers and switches) often use serial console for configuration. Serial ports are still used in these areas as they are simple, cheap and their console functions are highly standardized and widespread. A serial port requires very little supporting software from the host system.

4. Parallel Port or Printer Port
>> A Parallel Port is a type of interface found on computers (personal and otherwise) for connecting peripherals. In computing, a parallel port is a parallel communication physical interface. It is also known as a printer port or Centronics port. It was an industry de facto standard for many years, and was finally standardized as IEEE 1284 in the late 1990s, which defined a bi-directional version of the port. Today, the parallel port interface is seeing decreasing use because of the rise of Universal Serial Bus (USB) devices, along with network printing using Ethernet.
The parallel port interface was originally known as the Parallel Printer Adapter on IBM PC-compatible computers. It was primarily designed to operate a line printer that used IBM's 8-bit extended ASCII character set to print text, but could also be used to adapt other peripherals. Graphical printers, along with a host of other devices, have been designed to communicate with the system.

5. Game Port
>> The traditional connector for video game input devices on x86-based PCs.
 

 6. VGA Port
>> Acronym for Video Graphic Array. The most common connection for external monitors, but not necessarily the most preferred as it carries an analog signal. 

7. DVI 
>> Digital Video Interface is a video interface standard designed to provide very high visual quality on digital display devices such as flat panel LCD computer displays and digital projectors. Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to carry audio over a DVI connection provided both terminations support audio and they are connected via a 24+1 DVI (or DVI to HDMI) cable. 
>> Mini-DVI: This connector is used on Apple computers as a digital alternative to the Mini-VGA connector
>> Micro-DVI: This port is a video connection port used by some Apple MacBook Air laptop computers produced between January-October 2008

8. HDMI
>> High Definition Multimedia Interface is a compact audio/video interface for transmitting uncompressed digital data. HDMI (currently at revision 1.4) is required for the complete transmission of audio streams exceeding 5.1 channels. 

9. S-Video 
>> Separate Video (not Super Video) carries the video data as two separate signals, lumen (luminance) and chroma (color)

10. USB Port
>> USB-A: This kind of plug is most frequently seen on cables that are permanently attached to a device, such as one on a cable that connects a keyboard or mouse to the computer. 
>> USB-B: Typically plugs into an upstream receptacle on a device that uses a removable cable, e.g. a printer. 
>> Mini-A & Mini-B: Mini-A is now deprecated, but both these plugs are plugs are approximately 3 by 7 mm. These are used in PDAs, mobile phone and cameras. 
>> Micro-B: Micro plugs have a similar width as the Mini’s but approximately half the thickness. These enable integration into thinner portable devices. 
>> Micro-AB: This receptacle is capable of accepting either a Micro-A plug or a Micro-B plug

11. FireWire 
>> Firewire 400MB/s: Can transfer data between devices at 100, 200, or 400 Mbit/s half-duplex data rates 
>> Firewire 800Mb/s: Can transfer data at a rate of 786.432 Mbit/s full-duplex


12. Thunderbolt
>> Thunderbolt (codenamed Light Peak) is a hardware interface that allows for the connection of external peripherals to a computer. It uses the same connector as Mini DisplayPort (MDP). It was released in its finished state on February 24, 2011. Thunderbolt combines PCI Express (PCIe) and DisplayPort (DP) into one serial signal alongside a DC connection for electric power, transmitted over one cable. Up to six peripherals may be supported by one connector through various topologies. Data transfer rate speed of Thunderbolt is 10GB/s, double the speed of USB 3.0.



13. Ethernet LAN Port (RJ45)
>> Most people consider this their network jack, internet connection or hardline. 10/100 (or Fast Ethernet, which replaced 10BASET/2/5) is slowly being replaced by 1000Mbit/s or Gigabit (GbE) ports. Technically, these ports are properly known as 8P8C (8 Position 8 Contact.) These ports are typically used to connect twisted pair (more commonly referred to as Cat5e) cable (or we could just say, "Plug in a network cable that gets you onto the internet"). 

14. Modem (RJ11)
>> A physical interface often used for terminating telephone wires. Once standard issue with every desktop PC and laptop, new computers will often be without a modem/RJ-11 port unless specifically ordered that way.

 


15. Microphone Jack
>> Connection for Microphones

16. Line-In Jack
>> Connection for instruments or devices that produces music or sound

17. Speaker Jack or Line Out Jack
>> Connection for Earphones, Headsets and Speakers

18. S/PDIF 
>> Sony/Phillips Digital Interconnect Format. More commonly referred to as an optical interface, and uses a TOSlink cable. The digital signal is limited to 5.1 Dolby Digital and/or DTS streams and cannot carry the additional audio streams found on Blu-Ray (in other words, 7.1 would be downmixed to 5.1 over S/PDIF).

A note in History: (CPU Holder Slot type)
Early designs of motherboard has a different CPU holder back then. This was called a Slot Type. looks like a Memory holder and a CPU resembles a shape of a RAM today. 


2. RAM Slot
>> A memory slot, memory socket, or RAM slot is what allows computer memory (RAM) to be inserted into the computer. Depending on the motherboard, there may be 2 to 4 memory slots (sometimes more on high-end motherboards) and are what determine the type of RAM used with the computer. The most common types of RAM are SDRAM and DDR for desktop computers and SODIMM for laptop computers, each having various types and speeds. In the picture below, is an example of what memory slots may look like inside a desktop computer. In this picture, there are three open available slots for three memory sticks.


When buying a new computer or motherboard, pay close attention to the types of RAM the memory slots, so you are familiar with what type of RAM to buy for your computer. It is also important to note how many available memory slots are available in your computer. It is not uncommon for some computers to have all memory slots occupied, which means if you wanted to upgrade your computer memory some or all of the memory currently installed would need to be removed first.

Data connection is once again re-engineered by Intel to give us more speed in data transfer. This is the next generation of USB. Thunderbolt is twice the speed of USB 3.0. What's great about Thunderbolt is that aside from Data Transfer, it can also be used for display connections.

Fix a USB with a virus that turns files into shortcuts

My printer at home run out of ink and I need to print files for my report. I thought of having my files printed in a computer shop so i saved my files in a USB flash drive. Everything was printed perfectly and didn't notice unusual until I went back home. When I inserted my flash drive, all the files I saved there turned into shortcuts. My immediate reaction is to scan it and have the virus cleaned up but no virus was detected. I updated my Anti-Virus software and rescan again but still, nothing was detected. I thought that my flash drive has the problem so I used another flash drive and to my surprise it got infected as well. the virus is spreading to the flash drives I insert. I have tried other Anti-Virus software but no good until I got a video from YouTube.

Intel Wireless Display (Intel WiDi)


What is WiDi?

WiDi, the popular name for Intel Wireless Display, is a display connection technology that allows people to extend their laptop screen to their TV — no cable required.

Introduced in 2010, Intel WiDi now supports up to 1080p high-def resolution, 5.1 multi-channel audio and HDCP, which means you can now beam DVDs, Blu-ray Discs and movies over the air.

What can I do with WiDi?
WiDi works like an HDMI cable connected to your TV, allowing you to multi-task on the laptop screen while another application or media player runs on the TV screen, except you can keep your laptop on your lap — no cable. Imagine watching on TV the video you made of your kid’s birthday party while telling your friends on Facebook how glad you are that it’s over.
While some set-top boxes, game consoles and Blu-ray players offer internet services, they’re usually limited to a vendor-chosen subset of services enabled on the device. With WiDi, no such limitation exists. Tour Google Earth, explore massive photo mashups, play the latest pre-beta music service — if it’s on your computer, and you can beam it to your big screen (and big speakers if you have a receiver that takes HDMI).

How does WiDi work?
Processor graphics render a second virtual display, which is broadcast via WiFi through a feature in Intel Centrino wireless chipsets called My WiFi. On the TV side, a receiver converts the signal and passes it to the TV. The receiver is available as an add-on adapter and a growing number of multifunction TVs, Blu-ray players and set-top boxes are coming to market with WiDi receiver adapters built in.
The connection between the laptop and the adapter is managed by Intel WiDi software that runs on the laptop — the wireless driver, graphics driver and wireless display software are available for downloadfrom Intel. An additional app called Intel WiDi Widget simplifies the task of configuring the Windows settings to achieve the correct resolution and displays the active window on the TV with a single click.


Where can I find WiDi devices?
clip_image004WiDi is available in more than 100 laptop designs in virtually every major market around the world. Belkin, Netgear, D-Link and other OEMs offer display adapters. In stores, look for the Intel WiDi logo.

How to tell if you already have a compatible PC?
Type WiDi in your Windows* search bar. If your PC has built in Intel® WiDi, you will see ‘’Intel® WiDi’’ application in your search results.

Already Have a Compatible PC But Need an Adapter?
If you have a compatible PC, you just need a digital adapter to complete your set-up. With a digital adapter you can stream media content wirelessly from your laptop to other devices including TVs and stereos. Digital adapters are also known as push to TV adapters, digital media hubs, digital media extenders, and digital media streamers.
